Truck has about 150,000 on it. starts hard have to to crank it for about 30 sec or more. Thought it was a week fuel pump, but fuel pump went bad and has been replaced and it did not cure the problem. has new fuel filter, plugs and wires. what should i check next? thanks

When they don't start almost immediately it is either ignition or fuel injection. However, I am certain that you have a check engine light and it is throwing a few codes. Cold starting problems are the fault of the cold start circuitry which enriches the overall air fuel mixture. Hot or any other starting condition is the air fuel mixture. You can test it simply by using carb spray and giving it 2 seconds of carb spray, then cranking. If it starts immediately then it is your fuel injection. Since this is all computer driven, you have to look for codes and fix the bad codes....... I would not suspect the FPR because it does not cut off fuel, only has a window of regulation. Since it starts and runs, it really can't even be the regulator.... 80 Olds Cutlass built as a pro cruise car: 355 Chevy 2004R OD Trans, 8.5" 4.11 4 link rear.

I would not suspect the FPR because it does not cut off fuel, only has a window of regulation. Since it starts and runs, it really can't even be the regulator A leaking FPR will cause excess fuel in the vacuum lines, causing a very rich mixture at first. It will start, but run like crap until the excess is gone. 82 Monte Carlo SC, 355 w/Vortec heads, roller rockers, 625 Demon Carb, TRUE DUALS.

I recently went through this with my 2000 GMC. I posted what I did in another forum. Here's the link. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?... Boog

It is worth the investment. you will use it for the rest of your life. And I forgot to mention that the coolant temp sensor measuring more than 5 degrees difference from the air temp sensor when cold can be a problem. Edited by Stefko on 12-28-10 05:34 PM.
